I don't understand why anyone would want to raise a child on their own.

That statistic is awfully high and it's strange that it's a perfect increment of ten. You might want to compare sources. It sounds like there's been some statistic spinning. It happens all the time.

The out-of-wedlock birth rate is fairly high everywhere anyway, but not being married doesn't mean "not engaged" or at least "together", so there's about, say, 20% from your 'single parent' figure. Then you ought to make teen pregnancy its own category, to see how much of that figure it personally accounts for, because that's a whole other can of worms -- give that a conservative 8%, to be safe, and you're already looking at a 28% difference in the original statistic. If it's a doctored statistic, the accurage stat could be around half of what you read, according to this model.

This may be selfish behaviour? Maybe the guy is young and does not want to be a dad. Maybe the girl is smart, and realizes the guy is worthless and takes her chances...

Maybe there is a cultural / social acceptance in the black community, that it is not a big deal to have a baby and not get married.

I think that those who have children and are not partners for life, have a big disadvantage long term.

They need to teach in school...
"Suffer now, enjoy later.... Enjoy now suffer later..."

and just so you know, there are plenty of white people who make the same decisions... it is not just black people

Statistically, it's a circular issue of kids growing up without a father figure and acting accordingly.

Yes that is true. That's why there's so much violence among blacks and hispanics. It's very common. I feel sorry for the children who come from broken homes no matter what the race.

I think your stats might be elevated.
If there is a marriage or a man in the house, there is no welfare check.
There are tons of white and latin bastard children too.
I love all the celebrity bastard children!

Gee, if that were true, then it would be sad. It sounds like some men need to step up to responsiblity or use protection.
