Should the most fundamental purpose of our government be defense, and not empire?

I think the fundamental purpose of the gov should be law and order. Not in the sense that we need more cops on the street, but laws that keep us from killing each other, regulate business practices, etc... The cops enforce the law.

I find it telling that the Founders almost never referred to the military without calling it Defense. Any study of intent clearly shows that they abhorred war and would never in their wildest dreams condone offensive warfare.

Yeah...That's why it reads "We the people". Thats why we need a third party that gets us back to taking care of "We the people".
