My pediatrician told me to keep putting my daughter to sleep on her back, but if she rolls onto her belly it's fine because she's strong enough to roll over by herself. I was concerned about this too, but was reassured my the doctor that it was fine. I even bought one of those positioning wedges. It didn't work. She could make it over that, too. So those are a waste of money, in my opinion. If you are still concerned talk to your daughter's pediatrician at her next well child visit or call the office and explain to them what she's doing. They'll probably reassure you that it's fine because she's doing it on her own.

I always put my daughter to sleep on her side ( I would alternate) and she was fine.
Then, 4 yrs later when I had my son, I put him to sleep on his back and he ended up with a flat spot on the back of his head (I'm serious).
I think side-sleeping is fine and if they roll over onto their belly. just make sure their head is to the side. Usually babies who can lift their heads w/o help are not at such a big risk but better safe than sorry.

At 5 months old she is not really at risk for SIDS anymore, that is only a main concern for newborns who can't hold their heads up and can suffocate in the covers and mattress. I wouldn't worry, if they are old enough to roll over, they are alright sleeping on their stomachs or side.

I used to roll up a towel and put either side of mine to prevent them from rolling right over. I think you can actually even buy things especially for this now. Ask at a baby shop Im sure they can help.

She is at the age where she can move around now & just like adults she's going to move into a position that is comfortable for her.
If you are very concerned about it you can try using wedges, though if she's rolling over like that she'll probably fight her way out of them.
If she's that active, that she can roll like that I'm sure she would move her head if she were laying on her face. Parents placed babies on their tummies to sleep for 1,000's of years before they decided 15 years ago that it's wrong to do it that way.

You can buy the wedges for them to lay in the center of and there is a wedge on either side. This prevents them from rolling over in their sleep. You can get them at Baby Depot and Target.

My sons' pediatrician said that when they start rolling over on their own, it's a lost cause, and you should just let them sleep how they want. I always put them on their backs to sleep (I didn't have a problem with them sleeping on their stomachs, but it's easier to put them in the crib that way!) and without fail, they'd immediately roll over to their stomachs.

Look at it this way--if you were more comfortable on your stomach, would you want your husband to force you to stay on your back by propping you up with wedges and blankets and other contraptions, forcing you to stay in a position in which you weren't comfortable?

If she is rolling over on her own, then she is past the critical risk of SIDS. Don't worry about it. Just check on her often (for your own assurance). Turn her onto her back and relax. I know the feeling. I used to wake my kids up just to make sure they were breathing. By the third child, we both slept soundly through the night.

Just don't put a pillow in the crib with her if she sleeps on her belly. I'm sure she'll be fine, as that's a natural position for many babies to sleep in.
