Yes, they should be eliminated. Too many people are easily influenced by what they see on television. Commercials should not be in charge of telling people what is wrong with them.

A doctor has the ultimate choice and isnt going to prescribe you something he didn't think you need. Also i thought that the drug companies could already add the cost of advertising in the price of prescription drugs.
Still i do think that the advertising is crammed down our throat.
if anything this massive amount of marketing is benefiting the doctors. it's bringing people into doctor's offices who want to know if they should take something they saw on tv. How much does a doctor make when a patient comes just to enquire about a drug. probably 15 dollars from patient co-pay . I have no idea how much a typical medical insurance would pay for that visit. 45 dollars? $35 ? does anyone here know?

I don't see why. They have freedom of speech. If your dr doesn't think that med isn't right for you, he doesn't have to prescribe it. he can roll his eyes at your ignorance thinking you can be your own dr (general you, not you you)
Scoop--you have an interesting point. I wonder, though, if it is worse for them to "advertise" to the dr than on television. Drs get all kinds of interesting rewards for prescribing medications so they end up over prescribing and not really caring about patients' wellfare. (Not all, just some.)
I had a dr once that switched a med for no reason at all (it was pricier and my body did not handle it well at all). Drug companies also change the formula in a drug just slightly so it won't become generic. They tried to get me to pay $100 for 10 pills, when 10 pills of the generic that was basically the same thing was $5. Which is worse?
I think a lot of other prescription drug practices should be eliminated first!

Yes. Drug companies try to justify their high prices by saying they need the money for research, but then they spend that money for T.V. commercials. This puts undue pressure on doctors when patients ask for specific advertised medicines. Limiting their "free speech" for the good of the general public would be no worse than limiting the tobacco companies' right to advertise.

As somebody attending scientific college this annoys me extra desirable than something. persons are consistently thinking me "yet I heard approximately this element on television, can i'm getting it". we are turning out to be to be a society of self-medicating idiots inspired by using mass media. It drives me nuts! look, in case you have a scientific subject bypass and spot your wellness practitioner. permit his scientific adventure help you, not some 2 bit commercial prepare by using an advert organization to sell drugs to those who could or will possibly not prefer them. I see this inflicting extra people who're definitely inspired to think of they are ill than it extremely is assisting to "unfold awareness" approximately something. My 6 365 days old would not ought to renowned that Valtrex is there for treating herpes in case you prefer decreased outbreaks! Jeesh!
