I've found the opposite is true. If people are trying to accumulate points by voting, they usually pick the first answer and move on.

Usually a lot of times the first answer is a quick quip versus a more thought out and clear response to the question. A person could just say, 'yes', but some one who provides a little more to the answer is more likely to get best answer.

Think people pick what they "think" is the best answer. Sometimes the "Best Answer" doesn't even answer the question !
