simply put, free radicals induce damage to cell components such as dna ....etc hence possible mutations leading to possibly cancer ...etc
antioxidants are components like some of the vitamins found in foods, they counteract the action of antioxydants by for example inducing dna repair resulting from the effect of free radicals
