What factors have led to the resurgence of Islamic fundamentalism (or revivalism) in Afghanistan, Iran, and other parts of the Muslim world? Why do you think so many people in that world admire Osama bin Laden?

It is because the countries that rule in those areas are failing to give even the simplest care to those in need. The islamic fundamentalist give the medical care and supplies and build up their trust. They then follow right into their religion because the islamics control the education and teach them their beliefs even if they are skewed. Those people see them as saviors of their poverty and fighters for their freedom, not neccessarily in this life, but of life thereafter.

The Osam Bin Laden issue is not neccessarily that he is so admired. Actually what does he do, hides in a cave his life and send out a really lame tape every once in a while. The media builds him up more than he is worth. The clerics are much more dangerous than he is. His is just a symbol of what the western world has done to keep them poor and no hope in this life.

I will be hated for this, but it is true. The liberals of America have made us a big target because they fight for gay rights and having no morals, etc... I personally am for these rights and freedoms, it is just what they hate. The liberals fight for their side it seems and the first people the Islamics will cut the heads off will be liberals. They beileve that woman have no rights, that you cannot be gay. I wish I could call myself a liberal again, but until they head back over to protecting this country instead of tearing it down and apart constantly I will remain independant. And don't get me started on the crap the Conservatives are doing!!! What a bunch of idiots.

Well that's a long story. But more recent events have made Iran look more powerfull and Hezbulla's claimed victory in Lebanon has helped. This is all just brainwashing by clerics though.
These people are completely upside down in thier thinking, and you can't reason with them. Too many years of brainwashing.

the explanation that Islam, the religion of peace, responds to reasoned complaint, as properly as ridicule, with violence is using the fact violence is all it has to grant. It has no clever reaction by way of fact it is a seventh century superstition began by using a violent paedophile on a flying horse.
