to police the world? meaning they try to be the only powerful country in the world because we think that if we are the only powerful country we won't have enemies because we are the "good" country and we wouldn't start with anyone for no reason what so ever. unless Bush has another attack of conscience saying a country has weapons of mass destruction. what is your take on US trying to be the only superpower in the world?

Not entirely true, therefore "false."

The US SOMETIMES tries to police the world, depending on the PERSONALITY and BACKERS of the current President.

The US was trying to eliminate the old Soviet Union from its superpower status by bankrupting them in an effort to keep up with us. This suceeded, leaving us as the only superpower (which wasn't our primary goal). As soon as we became the only superpower, we started splurging on our credit card and entering needless foreign military adventures in an effort to waste the peace -- we are well on the was to succeeding with that binge and not being a superpower anymore.

I think they should just leave all other countries alone (Bush, Clinton, Bush Sr., Reagan, etc). The US has a history of bullying other countries around since WWII, but if they mind their own business, other countries will leave them alone. Look at Switzerland. What enemies do they have? Aside from chocolate addicts, NONE. They don't go around trying to impose their own morals and beliefs on other countries and cultures, so they're the last country in the world to get attacked. They are the most peaceful country in the world, and the rest of the world should follow their examples.

Actually, we used to make it a point to stay out of other people's business until it directly affects us. We stayed out of WWI for as long as possible and only got in at the very end. We didn't get involved in WWII until Japan attacked Pearl Harbour. It was after WWII and the new power winning that war granted us that we decided to become the police of the world.

We should go back to the way we used to be. All this stuff with N. Korea scares me because all our military is bogged down in Iraq so what if something else happens? We are in a very vulnerable position right now for a war that wasn't even necessary. We're screwing ourselves.

I don't think we've tried to police the world. But yes, we became the number one superpower after the dissolution of the former USSR, and we all know what a sorry state Russia's in right now. But will we remain THEE superpower? No way. China's growing at such a fast pace, it's become the story of the 21st century. And one day soon, they're gonna sneak up on us and smack us upside the head and we won't know what hit us. China's got their own built in sweatshops in every city...a sock city, blanket city, tshirt city...and they sell all of this stuff to the rest of us via Walmart, Target, Kohls etc. And don't forget, they're manufacturing everything from plasma, lcd tvs to computers, various electronics, cars...the list goes on and on. They also have a million plus army and nukes. The trade deficit between us and the Chinese is staggering.

The US hardly manufactures anything anymore. Look around, where have all of our factories gone? Where have all of our jobs gone...outsourced. We are no longer the number one maker of automobiles, thanks to the recent failings of GM and now Ford. It's a shame...we invented the freakin' automobile and today we are number 2 to Japan and it's efficient Hondas, Toyotas, Lexus, Infinity...I hate to sound so negative, but we're on a fast decline while China rises up.

You asked...I'll answer...I am not a republican.

Anyone who doens't understand that all humans want to be free and the USA is the only country attempting to do anything about it is simply ignorant.

It's exactly the same as me walking down the street and seeing you being held up at gunpoint...should I take the position that I shouldn't get involved because the gunman isn't pointing at me?

Just because gov't isn't trustworthy doens't mean they don't have the right committment or big picture. It's just plain stupid to think that it's wrong to butt-in on the world's business because you think it' none of our business.

If you really think it's none of "our" business then why should you even have the right to express your view on it...isn't that butting in on how others live their lives?

So yes, I hate a great many things about the US govt'...and I'm not a bush fan...I didn't vote for him....but to say that means you have no real sense of right and wrong.

False. As a superpower we have a responsibility to help those less fortunate than we are. We have always tried to not get involved. But the steady of stream of beggars from all over the world in Washington tends to get our attention. Foreign aid comes with a price.

Who does the world come running to with an outstretched hand when catastrophes occur? That's right, the good old USA.

We are the only superpower. I would rather we thumb our nose at everyone, but that's not politically correct.

I love the US but it would be a disaster for the world AND for the US for it to be a sole superpower.

Just like the US gov't has 3 branches for balance, the world needs balance too. Power corrupts as we're seeing too clearly recently.
