It is not just liberals that act in that way....Haven't you ever noticed people can be very strong and adament about something UNTIL it hits home? Then everything changes to adjust to their situation. That is called human nature.

I love it when I get put into the "type" I am pro aborciton (have had one - will never do again), but i think a women has the right to choose. and gay marriage who cares live and let live. I can see why ppl get so touchy about abortion but if someone wants to love someone of the same sex who the f cares! and If you makes you made if it is a family member - than it is your problem not the gay son! But from a parents point of view you never want to see a child go through a hard time in life and only want the best for you and a lot of times they are not lookin at your happiness and may be more worried on what it looks like on themselves and that is JUST THERE PROBLEM.

In the first place, the premise of your question is wrong: "liberals", whatever they are, don't ALWAYS do anything of the sort. I know lots of people, some who may be liberals, who especially support abortion when a woman close to them becomes pregnant inadvertently and support gay marriage when their son is gay.

On the other hand, I know a lot of so-called conservatives who DON'T support abortion until, all of a sudden, when their daughter gets knocked up by some no-good bum who raped her they think maybe it wouldn't be such a bad thing to terminate that pregnancy.

You know why that is? It's because conservatives, especially christian conservatives, are hypocrites.

PLEASE don't take one or 2 cases (or even a few cases) and label all Liberals act this way. You should change your question to "Why do SOME Liberals...?"

Otherwise it will be unfair for other to ask question like "Why do Republican always... (you fill the blank)" Anyone can use the current event such as Senator Foley as one example... and it isn't fair for republican either...

The answer to your question is I don't know since not ALL liberals act that way. As for some that act this way, they might be supporters of Liberals for other ideals Liberals stand for beside abortion or gay issues...

Wow, the libs must be different in your part of the country; either that, or we're defining the word differently. I'm (deep undercover)in the Greater Boston area and believe me the ones around here do not waffle on these issues. The local lefties are hardcore; Abortion and Gay Marriage are sacraments of their Faith....

I don't know a single liberal who has changed their opinion like you suggest. Not one. I do, however, know several conservatives who, on discovering their daughter had gotten pregnant without "benefit" of marriage subsequent sent said daughter "on sabbatical" from which she returned sans fetus. Or who suddenly stopped spouting homophobic rhetoric when their son came out of the closet.

What most liberals support is the freedom of each individual to choose what is the right path for him- or herself, without prejudice. That seems to be a concept that is beyond the ken of most conservatives.

Huh...I have never noticed that. When my cousin came out and said she was a lesbian we all were fine. Then my uncle(dads brother) came out and said he was gay...again nobody cared. I won't even bite on the abortion issue but I think somebody spun you the wrong way. Accepting people for who they are and mothers choice are what makes up the Liberal group it would seem. Why is it whenever a republican turns out gay they try to make him/her into a democrat? Does it really make a difference?
We're ALL hypocrites but you're a patriot...

Questions seems to be geared to specific people. Regardless on peoples political label, some can be inviting and understanding and others can freak out and be intolerant.... on all sides of the beliefs spectrum.

I think this is bullshit since I have family members who have had abortions (i support it) and my closest family member is gay. Why do conservative make broad generalizations?

That's not true at all. I fully support my daughter's abortion, and my son being gay. No problem whatsoever. Better than being abandoned by their family.
