This is almost the exact same story. The Yankees stunk in the 80's, but they came around in the mid-90's due to patience, solid signings and trades, and faith in their farm system. Fast forward a decade and it's basically the same story for the Tigers.

I see what you're saying, and yes it is possible.

One thing to consider is Dombrowski (I cannot stress enough what a real diffence he has made to The Tigers!!!) is a smart baseball man. He is not going to let any of his signings get away.

I'm not sure where Bonderman, Maroth, or Inge come in as far as contracts go. But I am sure once it is time for them to become free agents Dombrowski will sign them right away. He isn't going to let them get away.

Once he got Guillen in he signed him to a long term contract.
As well as Polanco.

First base is a concern during the off season.
Matt Stairs and Sean Casey are both free agents.
Do we sign Casey in a 2 year term?
I know Shelton is our long term 1st baseman, but his bat isnt all that hot anymore.
Will be intersting to see what happens there in the off season.

I'm not saying we are going to the postseason every year from here on out, but i do see The Tigers being solid contenders.

And that's all we can ask for, considering where we have been the previous 15 years.

I think a big part of our sucess is that 2003 season.
I know that sounds strange, but that year Dombrowski wanted to see what we had, and where to go.
Losing 119 games was tough, but as a wise man once said
"what doesnt kill you makes you stroinger"

Geez, I could babble on and on and on...and I am sure I forgot to mention something, but you get my drift.

AHHHHH, I did forgot something....mike ilitch!

The owner has a lot of money, and is not afraid to spend it!
ilitch trusted Randy Smith for too long (7 years) and when he brought in Dombrowski that was the turning point.

What a lot of people dont know is that ilitch also owns The Red Wings, and he had good hockey people run that team. Now he has good BASEBALL people running The Tigers.

One more thing (HA!) did you know that mike ilitch also owns Little Ceasar's Pizza? That is where his money comes from.

So next time you yankee fans eat one of those $5 hot and ready pizzas know that the money you spent on that went straight into Kenny Rodger's pocketbook for striking out 8 yankee hitters!

It is possible, but the question is premature. The Tigers have not won this year yet. As a Red Sox fan, I know too well the power of the evil eye. If you guys start thinking that it's over before it is, that's when the evil eye strikes, the Athletics come from behind, and things go bad from there. Take my advice, don't jinx your Tigers. Only count the hatched chickens. Great game tonight though. Robertson was good enough to get the job done and Rodney was sharp.

There are too many good teams in the American League and there is one good team in the National. A lot has to go right for the dreams of Dynasty to come true. Money, organization, luck and did I mention talented and healthy players. Even the best of young players sometimes hit the wall, flub araound, pick up bad habits and work themselves into oblivion.... remember a guy named Mark Fidrych.

One year doth not anEmpire make.... hope for it but don't expect it.

Sadly, no. The Tigers may well win it all this year (looked really good in beating the A's tonight), but they don't have the $$$$$$$$ to stave off the Evil Empire Yankees for the long term.

I do understand what your saying, but unless they invest more solidly over the next few years, not likely.
