Well, I met my husband when I was a senior in high school and he was in college. We have been ,married for 11 years now and still going strong. No one gave us much support and they probably all placed bets on whether or not we would make it. We have out lasted at least 5 marriages of our friends and we are still going strong. Go w/ how you guys feel and don't worry about everybody else. PROVE THEM WRONG!

Hate to stop pessimistic but you need to get real. The world is huge, and unless you are going to the same college and spending frequent time with each other then it might work...but you can't tell what can happen in 4 years, especially when you meet other people and have different experiences. High school and college relationships can be just that; they may never progress into something else.

I have a friend who was with the same guy since she was a sophomore in high school. Went to the same university, and then after graduation figured out that they could no longer grow together. She ended up marrying another guy. Had another friend who was the same, he recently found out that his girl cheated on him--and for ten years he's been nothing but faithful. So I guess my point is you can't tell. Don't limit yourself, explore your world. College is the best time of your life. Cross the bridge when you're there.

I know a couple who met in high school. They've been married a long time and have two kids. Many people meet when they are young and make it. I think a lot of people say you might not make it, because most people in your situation don't make it long term. Studies show that when an engaged couple does not have a date set for marraige within one year, if they are not married with in 8 months of engagement there is only a 20 percent chance they will be. People's hearts change, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Another thing to consider is that most people are very different after college. It will only be four or five years from now, but those four or five years are BIG. You will not be the same people then, and may also feel you are not as compatible.

Something else to consider is perhaps you feel uneasy about your relationship becoming sexual. It is normal for people in this situation to try and make themselves feel better about it with a marraige proposal. "If we're going to get married someday, then it's ok". This may not be your situation, but if it is you should wait till you are married for more sex. What if you don't get married? Then she is someone elses future wife. How would you like another man treating your future wife? Many people think it's no big deal, but still get very jealous when discussing ex's where sex is involved. So it is a big deal.

Ask yourself if you would still want to marry her if you were not having sex between now and then, or if you would even still want to date her. Marraige is a big choice. Don't confuse yourself with sex. Once you get married sex wil still be fun, but after many years of sex, it is not as big of a deal as when you are young. Then you just want someone you enjoy being around.

No one believes it because you are so young. It may seem frustrating, and though you may be mature........you will be completely different in about five years. Then fast forward to 12 years....and you will be even more different.

You haven't lived yet. You haven't had the pressures and responsibilities that life as an adult dumps on you. Right now, love is easy, and pure........there are dilemmas......but not like they are when you are independent and on your own.

Good luck in your relationship, but I have yet to see a relationship that started that young to last. The truth is you will grow and evolve into different people. If you can manage to stick together and grow together......it may be easier......but if not.......then it is a passing thing. It will probably be the turning point as far as what perspective, outlook, or expectations you have from all the relationships to come.

You have so much hope and determination for this. I hope you don't walk away empty handed years from now, with baggage that causes you to break the hearts of others because you were broken by the relationship you started out with, and wanted and hoped for and trusted so much in.

No one can tell you it won't last. It depends on the two of you, if you really do love each other and how you treat each other. Relationships don't just last, you have to work on them to keep them. I am finding this out now. Think positive and treat her with respect and always let her know how you feel about her. Don't ever get so relaxed you take her for granted. She should do the same for you. good luck.
