Background: I am a guy playing a part in a play where I am a guy who also plays the part of a girl (Shakespeare in Love type thing - it's actually set in Elizabethan period). In my girl role, this is a bit what my costume will look like::

I've been fitted for a corset for the part, but need to get my waist down a bit further for the part (2-4 inches) over the next 10 weeks. The lady who measured me for the corset said I should stick to some sort of waist training regime in the run up to the play to lose/shrink down those extra few inches and also get a bit more comfortable when I play the part on stage.

What does she mean by waist training? Does she mean losing weight? Are there any programmes on the net or in books for losing 2-4 inches in 10 weeks.

Essentially what she's recommending is that you wear it regularly to get accustomed to it. You're breaking the corset in to you and you to it. Typical reduction of a corset is up to 4" comfortably, but that's for short term wear. If you're going to wear it for any extended period of time (10-12+ hours at a stretch) you have to ease into it by reducing by only a part of that initially and then working up to the full reduction over whatever period. Diet and exercise (toning, obviously, not building bulk) will accompany that. However, if your diet causes you to lose significant amounts of weight, the corset may not fit properly any longer.
There are some who wear their corsets religiously 23/7, taking them off only to bathe. This would be an extreme example of waist training. Still, the idea is to reduce gradually to give your body time to adjust comfortably. Anybody can take 6" or more off if they pull hard enough on the laces...but then, you can tie a rope around your neck too...but after a very short bit, you'll realize what a mistake it is.

Training is exactly that...you train your waist to slim down by restricting and tightening the trainer/ corset. This process usually takes a bit longer than the time you speak of, but you should get some results and that should be enough if you wear the corset as part of the costume. Waist training will require you to wear the corset almost continually for the duration tightening the garment maybe once a week just a bit. Your breathing will also be affected during the training and you will learn to breathe a bit shallower to accommodate the restriction and tightness.

Good Luck =)

I don't suggest you use waist training corset, it's painful and harmful to the heath. Most training corset are made of steel and the steel even sticks out when you wash it. So plastic corset is better choice.

I'm not sure exactly.

But I think because men arnt as curvy and dont have natural waistlines that curve in, you need to probably loose a few pounds and practice wearing a corset just to get comfortable in it, they really take a tole on you if you're wearing them for a long period of time.

if you see her again soon, ask her again...

This is the best idea I can think of.

Dude what she has suggested is very dangerous. Waist training is what gave women the vapours back in the day. You don't want to do it for a stupid play.
