everyone stands behind a line and takes turns trying to throw rings made out of rope over a stick that is vertical. if you think its called coits, how would you spell it?

It's spelled quoits.

The rope version you refer to is known variously as Rope Quoits or Deck Quoits. The orginal game was played with steel rings rather than rope.

I think it's spelled coights. That's definitely what the game is called though.
