Section 3 of Article 3 defines Treason and sets out the requirement of 2 witnesses. I believe most states now also have a treason where the 2 witnesses are not necessarily required.

I think it's treason. The Founders made it difficult to prove because they were all traitors against the Crown, weren't they? No sense to make a law that could hang you, right?
