Sony has a open approach to on line gaming they let the gaming companies decide everything. There are few games that are pay to play on line but a good number just like on the xbox are free to play as much as you want. Some popular free games are madden and socom. ATV last i heard was free too. Some pay to play games are final fantasy and everquest.

No none of the games I played online costed me anything. Atv 3 is a free. Most games are free to some extent
