To become an FBI Special Agentyou must be a U.S. citizen or a citizen of the Northern Mariana Islands. You must be at least 23 years of age, but younger than 37 upon your appointment as a Special Agent. You must possess a four-year degree from a college or university accredited by one of the regional or national institutional associations recognized by the United States Secretary of Education. You must have at least three years of professional work experience. You must also possess a valid driver’s license and be completely available for assignment anywhere in the FBI's jurisdiction.
Becoming a CSI is a little less specific (and yes unless you want to work in the office answering phones you MUST have a college degree to be FBI) this is the best I could get:
The simple answer is to become a police officer and apply for the position as a CSI after a few years experience within the department. There is another avenue and that is as a civilian CSI. There are over 18,000 police agencies within the USA. There are very few police agencies that have full time civilian CSI's working for them, most are sworn officers that do multiple jobs. Those few police agencies that do hire civilian CSI's usually require a college degree and some knowledge of processing crime scenes, but not all agencies have that requirement. To become a CSI you need to be hired by a police agency. The hard part is finding what their requirements are for that position. They are not all the same. To find the best answer for you, our suggestion is to contact your local police department, your sheriff's department and the state police to find out what THEIR requirements are to be hired as a CSI. Education is always required. Some agencies just require a 2 year degree in almost anything, other agencies may require specific degrees, such as a Master Of Science Degree in Biology or Chemistry or Forensic Science.

The second person answering this question is correct. You will never get very far in the application process for the FBI without a college degree and pretty good grades, to boot. They look for political science majors, psych majors, journalism majors, and they look for more, something that makes people outstanding in their field, to their professors and to their employers. Things like always, always giving a job 110%, and doing more than a complete job. You should strive to publish while in undergrad school, in journals or some professional publication.

I have known of police officers who were recruited by the FBI, but they were truly the elite of their department, usually with investigative experience.

I have never known of anyone who went from a CSI unit to the FBI, but maybe that has happened.

My suggestion would be to quit living life vicariously through others on the television, and get out and live your life. If you want to pursue this goal, that is fine, but let not your current infatuation with the fiction that is those shows keep you from experiencing college life to its fullest. You may find your true and abiding passion for another career or endeavor while there.

maximum CSI's are no longer law enforcement officers yet lab techs or techs contained in the sector. some departments do use specifically knowledgeable officers for amassing data (in basic terms bear in mind they by no potential ever do issues like on any of the CSI shows. no longer even the actual cop CSI's could ever think of of interviewing or pursuing a homicide suspect, against all regulations and the actual detective in value could have his head) FBI you ned no longer have any regulation enforcement experience. in case you have been a CPA with audit experience and a regulation degree you may have a plenty extra effective risk of stepping into the FBI than any cop. The final co worker i comprehend who develop right into a police detective who went to the FBI additionally had a regulation degree, spoke and wrote in 4 languages and develop into an IT professional. Police detective you would be able to desire to be a cop first. in certainty you're nonetheless a cop while a detective. In an emergency or for particular operations detectives can and do pass back into uniform to function.
