My mom has a CD-R "movie" of her swimming in the Senior Olympics (BTW, she got two gold medals). Anyhoo, I tried running the CD on my CD drive and nothing showed up. I tried a few programs (including WMP) to run the little movie thingy and it didn't work. Mom is VERY disappointed that she can't watch her movie.

She thought the DVD player downstairs would pick it up (it wouldn't; it's a CD not a DVD; bear in mind that Mom is computer illiterate).

So how do I get the darn thing to play on my computer? I have WinXP Home edition with a Dell 4700 Dimension.

Most DVD players will play CDs OK. If it don't play on your computer, click on the CD drive and click Explore. The filename.ext for the movie should be there. Double click the filename and if you don't have the proper player, Windows will tell you it don't know what to use to open it. Look at the menu that comes up and use the internet to find out what program the extension is associated with and download the program.

Microsoft Windows Media Player shoud play it. What is the file extension on the movie? If it's .mov, then Adobe Quicktime can play it. If it's .avi or .mpg there shouldn't be a problem. Download a current version of WMP for free at http://www.download-zone-free.com/windowsmediaplayer/

it should work unless it's some odd format, if it's an avi file you may need a codec, but per above, what's the extension?
