I think it was a good homage to the late great Johnny Cash, but as much as I love Joaquin Phoenix, he still isn't Cash. I thought Reese Witherspoon did the best performance in the entire movie and deserved the Oscar very much.

You can tell that it was sung by the actors in the movie if you compare the tracks from the movie to the actual songs. They sound very different. At the end of the movie they also play a song actually recorded by the actual johnny cash and june carter, in which you can tell the difference also. I did also see a interview with Reese Witherspoon where she talks about singing publicly/professionally for the first time. So yes, they did sing the songs themselves.

I thought it the storyline was good and was impressed with Witherspoon's performance as June Carter Cash , Phoenix presentation of Johnny Cash wasn't too impressive , he seemed uncomfortable in his role , almost mechanical at times .

Thought it was ok but over hyped. Would have made a good made for tv movie. I thought Reese Witherspoon nailed it but the guy that played Johnny seemed over the top.

Excellent movie! Reese Witherspoon played a great June Carter-Cash. Very well written and acted.

Great! Singing is very close to the real thing (both June and Johnny) and he looks alot like Johnny did. Good acting, good screenplay.

I don't like any movie that makes a hero out of people that use drugs and are womanizers. John Cash was infamous and not a good role model. He was however rich. I don't care that he found Christ, it is easy for that type to find Christ after they raise hell all of their younger life. It is like an insurance policy in their mind.

I thought it was good, but not great. I believe the movie would have been much better if they had dubbed in Johnny's songs. I thought a great movie was Ray... and they dubbed Ray Charles' songs in which made it even better.

I really liked it.Especially the guy who played Johnny Cash.I still think the end needed to show more of the rest of their life.

Liked it better than I thought I would. Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon were both great in it.
