Your son sounds healthy to me. Both my boys were large at birth (8 lb. plus) and stayed big. They're 2 1/2 years old and 15 months old now, and have been in the 90th and above percentile from day one, practically. As long as your baby is uniform (meaning, his length isn't 50th percentile, head cir. is 20th and weight is 90th) he's fine. Some kids are just big. My older son weighs about 35 pounds now, which is pretty big for a 2 1/2 year old, but he's also tall. There's not one piece of fat on this child--he runs NON STOP all day long. His little brother is about 30 lb., and he's still pretty chunky, but I see it melting off of him. He started walking recently and is also go go go all day long.
As long as your pediatrician isn't worried, you shouldn't be either. It's impossible for infants to be obese.

My daughter was 6 pounds and 1 ounze when she was born, and now at 4 months she is fifteen and a half. Sounds like peanut is right on track to me!!! Your little one might be taller which spreads the weight around more evenly, and besides, the first six months is when they go through huge growth spurts. Every baby is different so don't worry. By the way, my 15 month old weighs 23 pounds and is considered skinny for his age. 18 pounds at 18 months must be very small.

look everyu kid is different! some kids are born big a nd some small! When i was born i was 6 pounds 11 ounces and 21 inches long! I was always small! they thought my mom wasn't feeding me! She was and she took me to doctors and they said i'm fine! I'm healthy and i'll be ok! My youngest brother was born 9 pounds and 3 ounces and 23 inches long! He was big! they though he was over weight for a long time but that was just his body for the moment! He grew out of it shed the fat and he's 16 in High school and 6 feet 5 inches tall on the basketball team in school but he only weighs about 140 pounds and he's all bone! So just feed your baby as you should and he will grow like he's supposed to!

My son is 4 1/2 months as well. He weighs 17 pds and is 27 inches long. Meanwhile my friends child is 8 months and weighs 16 pounds. I had the same concern as you. But while my child is in the 95%tile for his size my doctor assures me that it is completly normal expecially in boys and the growing will slow down. As long as your child does not have alot of excess fat it shouldnt be an issue. My son is long and skinny and weighs that much! Just a brut I guess LOL

What a cutie! Your son's in the normal range. Is he long (tall) as well? My kid was always in the 95th percentile in weight, length (and fortunately now in IQ tests) so don't sweat the numbers. If you're really worried, check with the pediatrician. She'll tell you that it's normal for young babies to have rolls of fat. I used to laugh at my kid's wrists which had a crease between the fatty hand and arm. Baby fat disappears when the baby becomes a toddler and starts racing around. Congrats on having a healthy baby.

Does your son look overweight????
My son is 18 months old and weighs 20 pounds.
My daughter is 8 months old and weighs 15 pounds.
What do you feed him?? Just breast milk or formula??? Do you feed him baby food yet???
I wouldn't worry about it to much. I mean, if your doctor says his weight is ok, then don't fret.
My kids are below the normal range for weight and height. My husband is really short, he is 5'4" and I am 5'5". So if you and your partner are taller, your kid will weigh more and be longer.
Don't worry about it. Your son is fine.

Don't worry about an infant being overweight, it's a non issue. A 4 1/2 month old is not going to overeat. Besides that, your pediatrician told you he is in range, so don't stress. Just make sure that as he gets older you instill good eating habits into him. Right now though, just enjoy your baby.

Even IF he seems chunky to you DONT worry about it. Especially with winter coming if he gets sick he may not eat that much. My 2nd girl was almost the same evertything as my 1st at birth and now I think shes a lil chunky, at 6. But all kids are different and they will grow out of the baby fat stage. Mine is big boned and she portioned ok for her height. I think he'll be fine.

No your kid isn't overweight. He needs that extra fat for muscle development at this point in time! Check his weight when he gets to a year AND is walking. If he's not walking at a year, wait until he walks before you are concerned with his weight. Then you can put him on a "diet" by giving him plenty of low calorie vegetables, etc. The best thing for you to do is to talk to your pediatrician about your concerns.
