She only gained 2 lbs this month. Her placenta is also low. Do I have cause to be concerned? She is being sent for a emergency ultrasound.

It's very early

The baby will flip around and do all kinds of position changes before 40 weeks

See what the ultrasound says though

If the placenta is very low it might block the exit hole (the cervix) and your daughter might need a caesarian section operation to take the baby out

Hi, Hope all is well with mother and baby. The concerns the doctors may have is placenta previa..which is when the placenta is totally or partially covering the opening of the cervix. If that is the case, a c-section may be in order at time of delivery. Other concerns would be position of the baby..like head down or breech. If breech, she MAY have to have a c-section unless the doctor is skilled enough to turn the baby to a head down position. As for her only gaining 2#. That could be perfectly normal. If she is a larger gal, gaining alittle is better than a lot. If she is a small woman, then gaining more wouldn't be as much of an issue. The ultrasound will give you so much more information. Many of your worries will be resolved when this test is over. Hope everything will go smoothly for you and your daughter and grand baby. Please let me know how her ultrasound goes. And if you still have questions, don't be afraid to ask. I am a nurse and have worked in the labor/delivery room many times.Good luck! Lea:)

If she isn't having breakthrough bleeding then she's probably just fine. Better to be safe than sorry! Definitely do the ultrasound!

No you need to be relaxed for your daughter. She should be seeing Ob/gyn and have the specialist see what's happening. If you get all worried it's not going to help your daughter any.
