Canseco and D. Stewart?

This team is missing a couple components that team had. First off, I don't think Zito is an ace like Stewart was. Second as is evidenced tonight, this team has zero team speed and grounded in to fewer double plays. Those teams had Rickey Henderson and Jose Conseco for speed and power, added with McGwire, Dave Henderson and Dave Parker. Not that this current team is lacking in pitching, and nothing against Huston Street, but Eckersley was the man for that three year period where he was basically unhittable. Also, they had a very solid bullpen along with Honeycutt and others. And of course we come to starting pitching. Stewart was a legit #1 starter who was generally great in postseason. Also Bob Welch was no slouch. I don't see this team being better than that team at all.

You mean the team with Canseco, Ekersley, Stewart, etal, that the Dodgers whooped in 1988? Or the team that the Reds whooped in 1990? Can't count the 1989 Giants, they were a fluke, plus the earthquake disrupted everything. Those teams didn't win it all, and they were better than the A's team that won two in New York, only to come home and lose three straight. Don't hold your breath this year, either!!!

Hell yeah, I think the A's are pretty good this year.
