Why is N. Korea insisting on bilateral talks with the U.S. instead of six way talks w/ its neighbors?

This question is focused on the seeming breakdown of negotiations where N Korea does not want to negotiate w/ its neighbors but is insisting on talks w/ the U.S.. Why involve us in any talks when we live 1/2 a world away?
