we only have 1 cable company out here and that's time warner, and one phone company and it's embarq. It sucks and they both charge a lot for internet access. Are there any other companies that provide high speed internet that I can check to see if they are available in my area?

Satellite internet. You put a dish on your roof. I use it, because I live in the boonies (no cable), and am too far from the phone company switches to get DSL. Works great.

For highspeed dial up all you need to do is use firefox instead of internet explorer with the faster fox extension with regular dial-up. All the highspeed dial up is use a different compression rate than regular, which firefox does by it's nature. Not to mention firefox isn't bogged down with all the extra stuff IE has.

Only thing left is Verizonwireless...but it seems to be geared more for business than for personal use, they call it broadband and minimum is $60/month. You get a card that plugs into your laptop. There's also satellite, I've never priced it so don't know what they charge.
