I am a college freshman who has a speech class and i have an informative speech due in 2weeks and i don't have a topic yet. I don't know what kind of topics are out there to choose from. We need to have powerpoints and an outline. I really don't have any special hobbies i like doing, but I do have a fear of speaking aloud in groups. But would that be a topic and how would i do powerpoints on it. Really need some help on this because i am stumpped! Thanks!

Do it on some sort of program, such as Outward Bound or Habitat for Humanity. (I can't think of any other specific examples right now?). My roommate did hers on Outward Bound and I helped her write it.

Start out with an intro paragraph to get the class interested in the topic--talk about some interesting parts of the program. Section the rest of your speech into topics--History of the program, the things they do, how they help people, how it benefits society, etc. For each section, create a powerpoint page, detailing your information. I suggest using short bullets on your powerpoint page. The powerpoint functions as an outline for the class, and they should not have to be reading the exact same thing as you are saying.

Don't be afraid of speaking in groups. The more you do it the easier it is. As soon as you start talking its over before you know it. Practice it on someone like your friend or roommate just so that you know everything you need to say, and have them time it. Good luck.

You said you don't have any hobbies, well you must do something everyday that not everyone does, or you may have tattoos or something like that, or how about skate boarding, or cooking something special and sharing it with the whole class, when I was in speech so long ago. I did potato fries, I believe my infromative speech was tattoos and what it's been though past through all the years and the fear of them and how it is much safer now. My last speech was on skate parks, I think. For talking in front of people, do your speech in front of other people talk to yourself in the mirror.

Don't pick something that requires a lot of research; you should be concentrating on your speaking skills, not necessarily the subject. Do you own any pets? This will sound lame, but maybe a presentation on how to care for your cat or dog. If you like movies or music, you can do a presentation on the work of a certain director/actor or musician.
