The patient confidentiality of minors. It's MORE strict than the confidentiality laws for adults. You can't, in most states, tell a minor's parents that they are pregnant or have requested birth control. In some states you can't inform the parents if the child has an abortion. The child's welfare is at stake. Doctors can't even inform parents of a child's suicidal tendencies in many states. Is this not a direct conflict ethically with a doctor's primary mission, the welfare and well being of others? For many this is a huge conflict of interest because the child's well being is at stake (please realize this is NOT a morality argument!). Keep in mind the following definitions:
Morality = wright and wrong.
Ethics = a person's duties to another (including an organization).
Please do not get caught up in morality. That is NOT ethics, nor does it have anything to do with ethics! 99% of people GET THAT WRONG. (As the answers posted above mine both have wrong.)
