I'm an RN who has taught Nursing for over 25 years in a great variety of settings. In addition I had bilateral breast cancer at age 39 years and had both "ductal" and "lobular" cancers in my right breast. I have nursed a number of patients with breast cancer including my own mother who died at 48 years of age after having the breast cancer less than 5 years. I only share this information to let you know that I speak from personal knowledge, experience, and considerable professional training. First of all breast cancer is caused by a number of factors that work together to cause the cancer. For example, I have an identical twin with the same genetic makeup as myself and who grew up in an identical environment as myself including diet, exercise, sleep, etc. but she has shown no signs of breast cancer. The right genes are needed to predispose you, along with the right (bad) diet, exercise and sleep patterns are also factors, the individual's immune system including history of illnesses and viruses, specific carcinogens in the environment such as radiation or smoke, history of smoking or drugs, etc. I could go on but I think you have the idea. The aluminum in deodorant does not cause breast cancer any more than eating too much sugar causes Diabetes. However, aluminum is known to be a carcinogen just like hundreds of other things so if you are able to avoid it do so. A number of Medical Doctors that I have learned from have been adament about women and particularly young girls wearing and sleeping in under-wire bras. It contributes to several problems but none of them are breast cancer. Sleeping with a bra on (the unwired kind) causes no problems and is often suggested for pregnant or lactating women or women with very large breasts. The support is very helpful. Unfortunately a lot of misinformation and scare tactics are prevalent these days regarding medical/health issues so you are very wise to ask questions and choose reliable sources for answers. I hope this information will be helpful for you. Good luck and God Bless.

I doubt very seriously that you will see such things in the Journal of the American Medical Assn, nor will you have warnings come from the American Cancer Society for you bra on.
(as a side note, your partner might have their own reasons for you to sleep w/o it).
Uh, before your friends take you on a snipe hunt, you need to start looking things up on reputable web sites.
Better yet, become an expert on your own body. There will come a day when you really do have a scare (most women do) and you'll want to know the real facts.

One of the causes of breast cance is apparently deodorants and antiperspirants aside from silicone implants, smoking, use of estrogen, birth control pills, consumption of red meats, animal fats, artificial sweeteners, etc. Sleeping with an underwire bra is okay. This doesn't cause cancer. Neither does it stunt the growth.of the breasts. Once you peak at your growth and development, the process is irreversible. However, it must be very uncomfortable to sleep that way. in underwire bra. Why do you want to do that? I prefer loose clothing to sleep in; pajamas or night gowns, or negligees.

How old are your friends, 8 ? None of that is true! Try looking in the library for a book on breast cancer. Maybe your friends were just kidding...
