How do I go about making the font show up in the text choices? Do I have to extract it to a specific place rather than the default location?

You need to add the font to operating system. The applications get their list of fonts from the OS.

Control Panel, Fonts

You'll get a window with a list of fonts. File | Install New font--

Point to your font file(s) and if all goes well you should be able to use it in word.

Goes into C:\WINDOWS\Fonts folder in Win XP... just drag the font in there then restart Word and it will show up in the list.
