Pittsburgh needed to dump his salary at the trade deadline...and he wasn't having a very good year in Pittsburgh, so they sent him to Detroit for prospects.

On a side note, when Casey was rehabbing his injury this year, he played a weekend with the AA Altoona Curve here in Erie PA, against the Tigers' AA team the SeaWolves. Through the clubhouse guy at the stadium, I ended up getting Casey's cap from the weekend.

Casey is a renowned great clubhouse guy. The Reds were cutting salary and trying to find some pitching for Casey and they got a horrible lefty for him (Williams I believe). Whenever you trade a guy like Casey, you send your clubhouse the wrong message. The real problem of the matter is this though, you don't have too many guys playing first that hit under 20hrs. I love him with Detroit right now, don't get me wrong (i am a tigers fan), but a first baseman with not a lot of power and this season not a high average either isn't usually in high demand.

I still miss having him on the Dragons! I don't know what the Reds management thinks they're doing, but it seems everytime they trade players they cut their own throats.
