well that's a tuffy. but my answer is Hendrix
Hendrix could make a guitar do what no other could,how many left handed guitarists do you know that plays a right-handed guitar,with it upside down,restrung differently,with their tongue,teeth and many other ways.
don't get me wrong after all Clapton is the best at his form of rock. as is Gilmore at his and Les Claypool on bass.
now if you want to get technical rolling stone named Hendrix no 1 in the top 100 best all time guitarist then Duane Allman ,BB king and at no 4 was Clapton so there.

The correct answer to your question has to be Eric Clapton because he "IS " still alive. Jimi Hendrix "WAS" the better guitarist before he died.

Jimi Hendrix without a doubt.....but I really like Clapton, too. I just think that Jimi was way ahead of his time and certainly taken from us too soon.

Jimi Hendrix. Clapton is amazing, but Hendrix was such an innovator! He made that guitar sing like no one had ever heard in his time. Rest in peace, Jimi, we miss you!
