Look at the North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, NC. They are a little further away that you are looking, but they are the #2 school in Design and Production (after the Rhode Island School of Design).

There is no doubt that NCSA is wonderful, but as you asked for Tennessee...
UT has a good program, but I am not sure how much an undergrad will get to do. The bonus is that they are partners with Clarence Brown, a LORT theatre on site. Always good to learn along side proven professionals, the exposure would be great. However when looking for undergrad keep in mind that teh trainign is less importnat than getting a good solid liberal arts education, you will go far with that, then you can always specialize if you get an MFA.

Ya, I'm with the other guy -- North Carolina School of the Arts is a very very good school. I've met folks who've come out of that school and they have great skills. It is also a pipe line to Broadway since they hire the Big Guns from B'way to come as guest artists.

Personally, I've not heard of any schools in Tennesse -- sorry about that.
