"We intend to introduce the BJ's concept to people in new regions across the country," said Paul Motenko, who co-owns the Mission Viejo-based company with Jerry Hennessy. The duo became partners in BJ's in 1992 and last fall paid an undisclosed amount of cash and stock to buy out Michael Phillips and William Cunningham, who founded BJ's in Santa Ana, Calif., in 1978.

I had the pleasure of meeting Paul Motenko who started BJ's Restaurant, and asked him what the BJ stood for, He chuckled and said with a smile,, "I was raised in the 70's and that term was very popular back then, If you ask anyone who was from back then they will tell you what it stands for"
