Liberals, Democrats, Republicans, Conservatives..none will be happy, EVER. It always has to be about the "other" person. It is never about the collective of politicians. In that the "liberals" agreed with the intelligence perhaps simply shows that most of our current politicians are gullible and senseless. I read the previous posts and am amazed at how adept some are at finding quotes to support their side. I would assume, that if I looked through the internet I could find support for the opposite side too. The vote did have dissenting opinions. However, there are many on here making a good point. There was never a formal declaration of war signed. It was an authorization to use force which is different. This same type of authorization is what landed the United States in Vietnam full force. Prior to this authorization for the President touse force, Vietnam was simply a bunch of "advisors" in country to help the South Vietnamese learn to fight better.
What I find even more curious is that so many Iraq war vets are coming home and running for congress against republicans. Why do you think these vets are doing this? Could it be that many are sick of being in a situation that is looking more and more like a protracted police action like Vietnam was? We were there for over 11 years! We have already been in Iraq for 3 1/2 years so we are well on our way to that point. In Vietnam, the deaths went slow too at first but, after 11 years, 52,000 American's had died. Do you know what happened to the Republic of South Vietnam? It was conquored by the North and Vietnam is now a Communist country. This was the very thing these 52,000 young men and women died to defeat! Now that Iraq is on the verge of Civil War (and that is not liberals or conservatives, Democrats or Republicans speaking that is historians and political science experts speaking) do you think we are doing more harm than good? Saddam is gone. Bush declared the war over 2 years ago, yet we are sending MORE troops to try to end the civil war before it starts.
What did Bush, the Republicans, and government expect to happen? You unseat a dictator who has had absolute rule over a country for decades. He, even though he is a dictator and brutal, has been supported by the US government to keep Iran in check through warfare. The Taliban in Afgahnastan who are making a come back were originally financed and armed by the United States to fight a war against the brutal regimes of that nation. After that fight was done, we go in and destroy them (kinda funny huh?) There still is no proof that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. What we do know is that Saddam used his own population to test nerve gas and other gas weapons. He did not however do this using a weapon rather he sprayed it much like we do our crops.
There is much we do not know about Iraq and you can argue that there are good things going on there. I question though our government using 86 Billion dollars every few months to fight for and rebuild this country when our very own country is falling apart. I question the use of our military to fight a war that is no longer needed (goals were met according to the President). I question how we will now respond to North Korea and Iran. Will we try to go into open warfare on two more fronts against two much better armed and trained militaries? Considering the trouble we are now having with the unconventional styles of the fighting in Iraq (sneak attacks, road side bombs, etc) can we afford to commit tens of thousands of troops to another theatre of war? (BTW A side note of interest. During the American Revolution, Colonial militia were fighting for the right to govern their own lands and be in control of their own destiny. The tactics used included hit and run, hide behind a tree or fence line, and sneak attacks. In 1776, when these things were happening, the British military called these Minutemen BARBARIANS for using such tactics and not fighting like men on the open field. Is it not strange how we now use the same word, BARBARIANS, for the insurgents in Iraq? )
I am neither a liberal nor a conservative, a democrat nor a republican. I am a free thinker who is not afraid to say what is on his mind. A bonafide registered independent who can see both sides of the fence more often than not and then is able to find a middle ground. Perhaps we need to reevalute the policies guiding the war in Iraq. Perhaps it is time for a change of focus to begin turning over all aspects of their government and freedom to them. Perhaps it is time to consider this a done deal and leave behind only a handful of US Troops to protect only American interests in Iraq (and i sure hope and pray that does not mean oil fields). Perhaps we should all step back and think about what is going on in Iraq and measure how serious it is compared to Iran and N. Korea. Perhaps President Bush should get off his high moral horse he seems to think he is riding and TALK to these countries. I do not agree with the way he is handling the POLITICAL side of these issues. HE is showing weakness by not talking to these people. Unfortunately, I will be labeled for my beliefs. Talk to these leaders...that IS what a leader does.

No.
We'll NEVER tire of complaining about the obscene war in Iraq until ALL of our soldiers have come home.
No more Americans should die for Bush's lies. Too many already have.
There was no Declaration of War, check your facts. And the Congress was fed the same pack of lies as the rest of America. It is proven, indisputable fact that the Bush Administration purposely cherry-picked "intelligence" to overstate the case for going to war.
We are there until either Congress or that idiot in the White House come to their senses. Don't hold your breath.
To "Chris J"- We were right about Viet Nam also.

You livelihood depends on this war, as I see you are the wife of a soldier. I am happy that your husband has chosen to serve his country, but, it's hard to get someone to understand something when their paycheck depends on them not understanding it. If your husband were a tobacco farmer, I'm sure you'd support cigarette smoking, even though it causes cancer. And when your husband gets killed over there, will you still support Bush?
We're not doing any good in Iraq, and even most Republican voters agree with that statement as well. I wouldn't call it complaining, and like you said, we are there, but there doesn't seem to be any plan for ending it, and things are only getting worse. If I saw and end in sight, I could at least not be AS pissed off about it.

It sickens me to see how many anti american anti military people that has the gawl to be morons towards you and your husband and most of us dont feel that way..,I am truly sorry and I wouldnt even call the scum that shows you and your husband disrepect americans.Thank you for supporting your husband and thank him for us..,god bless and god speed.

well that actually is not true..... congress voted for the president to use force after all other options had been exhausted and after Bush won support from the UN council.....
he promised he would but did neither!!!!!!!
and it doesn't matter what intelligence who saw.... it was wrong!!!!!!!
and no liberals aren't tired of telling you the truth about Iraq...... but i can see how it would be tiring trying to defend Bush and all the crap he has done...... i do feel sorry for you and understand your frustration...... maybe you need to direct it at the source of the problem..... and not the liberals who are just pointing out the obvious that you fail to see!!!!!!!!!!!

It, Foley, and their hatred of Bush is all that drives them, all the while they can't see how they play into our enemies plans. The people we are fighting are not dumb, they want us to cut and run, they think we're soft because of our recent past all they have to do is send in a few more homicide bombers blow up as many people as they can and we will turn tail and run for the hills. They can't see what it would really mean for us to lose the war in Iraq and how that would affect the rest of the world.I sorry for that, armywife, if your husband is there now, I thank him. He is doing the right thing never mind what the quitters say.

Your husband is a hero.
BUT, the USA didn't declare war. Another answerer stated no delcared war since 1941, and that is true.
Liberals support the troops, just not the war.
The job will not be done for several years. And the Iraqis are smart, they can govern themselves.
