Hi, i am a teacher. As my knowledge, the US has 50 states as well as 50 stars on its flag. But when i count the map, there are 52. Do you think the South Carolina and North Carolina are considered as 1, South Dakota and North Dakota?
When i study, i know that there are 48 states in continent and 2 states off shore, Alaska and Hawaii? Am i true? Please let me know this?

Please don't use your stupidity to defame the under paid hard working teachers..... retire! If you want to be funny,, then I offer you this lame retort,, consider the state of deniel, the state of confusion, the state of oppression, the state of inequility, the state of the union, and the state of our current economics.... add it up,, if you have the ability, balance some statistics, math, and geography, add some philisophy, and some politics,, ... then,, if you're still stumped post the question again, so some MIT genius can attempt to help you...

You're way beyond my unintelligent and sensible, rational, logical insight!...... 'tard... besides I'm from North Carolina, and I'm offended by your stupid assed comment..haha,, thumbs down,, you're question and the actual proclamation that you have a license is thumbs down!

The last time I knew there were 50 states in the United States. That means that there are 48 states in the continental US and 2 ,which are Alaska and Hawaii, that are not connected to the continental US. Also, I've never heard of North Carolina and South Carolina being counted as one state and North Dakota and South Dakota being counted as one state. I was always taught that North Carolina, South Carolina, North Dakota, and South Dakota are FOUR SEPARATE STATES. I highly suggest that you recount the states on your map or ,perhaps, get a new one.

North and South Carolina are two separate states, as with North and South Dakota. There are 50 states, not 52. But yes, there are 48 continental states and Alaska and Hawaii are not part of the continental U.S.

I am confussed you said you are a teacher? Here maybe this will help you good luck..

The federal entity created by the Constitution is the dominant feature of the American governmental system. There are fifty (50) states and Washington D.C. The last two states to join the Union were Alaska (49th) and Hawaii (50th). Both joined in 1959.

Washington D.C. is a federal district under the authority of Congress. Puerto Rico is a commonwealth associated with the United States. Other dependent areas include American Samoa, Baker Island, Guam, Howland Island, Jarvis Island, Johnston Atoll, Kingman Reef, Midway Islands, Navassa Island, Palmyra Atoll, Virgin Islands, Wake Island. From 18 July 1947 until 1 October 1994, the US administered the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, but recently entered into a new political relationship with all four political units: the Northern Mariana Islands is a commonwealth in political union with the US (effective 3 November 1986); Palau concluded a Compact of Free Association with the US (effective 1 October 1994); the Federated States of Micronesia signed a Compact of Free Association with the US (effective 3 November 1986); the Republic of the Marshall Islands signed a Compact of Free Association with the US (effective 21 October 1986).

There are 50 states, yeah.
But Alaska is not offshore, it's actually part of the continent. It's not part of the contiguous United States, but is connected to North America.
And each Carolina and Dakota counts as its own state, for sure.

Not a math teacher I hope. Washington DC doesn't count as a state, and I can't for the life of me understand where you might be getting 52. When I count the states on the map, I get 48 continental and 2 offshore.
