Tell them as soon as you can..........it makes life easier 4 u. I fell prego a year ago. I told my boss b4 I reached 6wks. I am glad I did cause not three weeks later I thought I was miscarrying. I was given the week off, it made it easier to deal with cause I did not have to hide y I was not in. Telling him now covers u so he/she understands y u may not be feeling Ur best down the track as well.

Legally, you don't ever have to tell your boss. It will become apparent, and that's the end of the story. If you are in a salaried position, your job is protected by the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and you will have a certain amount of time off without losing your position.
The only reason you would have to tell your boss that you are pregnant is if continuing your current duties would be harmful to you while you are pregnant, or put your baby at risk (heavy lifting, etc.).

Even though it sounds bad there is always the risk of misscariage thats why its so common for people to wait after the 3 month period, where the risk is very low.
I am 18 weeks and told my boss when I was three months but if you have told people at work and it could get to your boss before you then its probbly best to get in first, otherwise id wait untill 3 months.
Good luck to you both!

When I got pregnant, my fiance and I agreed that we would only tell our parents. We then agreed that we would tell our friends after the first trimester -- we wanted to make sure that everything was okay and that nothing bad happened. I didn't tell my employer until after my first trimester and I had started to show.
If you are in a close environment and you have told your co-workers, you have to tell your boss. If you are experiencing morning sickness, I didn't, you should tell your boss. It's better that they hear the news from you than to hear it from the office rumor mill or to figure it out themselves.
Congratulations on your pregnancy... I wish you a happy and healthy baby!

That depends on your job and your relationship with your boss. I am 34 weeks pregnant and I didn't tell my boss until I was well into my 2nd trimester (20 weeks). I work for the federal government so I understand my maternity leave policy and my rights. More importantly I have a good work relationship with my boss and a great work rapport. As happy as you are and as hard as it is to contain, I wouldn't tell too many people until I am done with my first trimester.

If you wait to long you won't have to tell them. Do you plan to keep working or going back to work there after the baby is born?
If you have a dangerous job I would inform them as soon as possible for health reasons, if not wait until you are about five months.

My company is so small... I told my boss right off the bat. I was working on an ambulance, so they had to set me up with a light duty gig, now I dispatch. We arranged my leave pretty early, it is all set now and I am 23 weeks pregnant.

Be honest and tell him before it shows, otherwise any chance of negotiating work conditions will be shot.
Honesty is always the best policy and you are always respected more for it.
Speak with your boss, I hope they are approachable, and talk about what you will do once the baby is born and work out your maternity leave etc.

Get out of the first trimester first. Your chances of miscarrying decrease dramatically after the third month, and if your boss is female or has kids, he/she will understand your reservations at letting the news out too soon. And if your boss is anything like mine, he/she won't be able to keep his/her mouth shut. If you don't want to tell coworkers, I'd wait to tell your boss. Once you let it out, EVERYONE will know.
And congrats!
