So often on this forum, I see questions that are obviously right out of a history or gov't textbook (some, I think from mine 20 years ago!). I think it's great that kids these days have the Internet as a resource for knowledge, but does it seem weird that the can just get on Y!A and have someone directly answer their homework for them? I, for one, learned it by actually looking it up!

Don't misunderstand. I'm not judging those who post their homework questions or those who answer them. Ask and answer away...I just wonder how getting the info given directly to them without any research is a good thing. Any opinions?

I am in college and when I am really stumped I post a question. Usually I don't get a good answer. But when I do, its just a jumping off point.

The bottom line is you got to do the reading. If you do that and post questions about what you did read than you are ahead of the game.

You are never going to get an A by having the folks on questions and answers do ALL your homework for you.

The odds catch up with you sooner or latter.

I just answered something on triangular trade and why it used slaves. But i did use valid information even gave links to two resources/maps that showed where i got the information. Also i explained my interpretation of it but did warn the person on plagiarism and to make sure they do cite if they ever get a source off the Internet or else the teacher will be all over them.

I think answering a question is in fact yes helping them answer the question but if they are too lazy to listen in class at least they might comprehend something from what i told them. If they don't they will still fail their tests and get what they deserve.

Only problem is answering something with a false answer just to get a laugh out of it because if the student takes this for a real answer they will just bury themselves when the teacher reads it or is given a test on it.

Its good places like this are around to help students in subjects they might be having problems with. Like math that is always a difficult one for many people even adults so being able to ask for help is great. I know that some people post their home work problems here just looking for answers without doing any work themselves but they are only hurting themselves. If they show how they got the answer they got and are asking if its right i would be be more then happy to help them if i knew what i was doing in whatever area they had a question in.

As a student in a government class, I am obviously a bit biased, but I believe that by giving the kid an answer on here he is still learning. You could argue that he is researching through Yahoo answers. I see your point about the cheating issue, however it is a lot better than simply copying word for word of another students paper. Atleast on this forum the student will read the response and (hopefully) comprehend it. Especially given the fact that a lot of people will jokingly put up answers, direct copying from this site without first reading the answer isnt something any student with average intelligence would do.

I think many of the kids are on yahoo answers all day and realise that their homework is due the next morning! But I seriously would have loved this for that wonderful homework that just had me completely stumped. I was the type of student that liked to figure things out on my own, but it could've been helpful for those silly little hangup questions.

Most of the questions asked for homework could easily be found by doing some Google searches, though.

By no means! If these students have the brains to use the most advanced resource available and learn from their peers, my hats off to them.

There is actually not one thing wrong with picking the brains of the adults using this service.

In fact, this is like a family thing.

Yes, they think they are so cleverly disguised, and it works! A lot of people answer them! I frequently just write back "do your own homework" but then one of them reported me for not answering the question! I just leave them alone now. But I wish they wouldnt crowd up the site with boring, irrelevent stuff, it's easier to look up something than post the question on here!

I don't think they are cheating, beacuse they are at least learning the information. When we are adults, we are interdependent, relying on others to help us in the workplace. Kids need to learn this more. Interdependence is a much higher level of maturity than independence, so I think it's great that kids are seeking answers in any way they can find them. At least they are DOING their homework.

i am not ,but a lot of people are ,we should not do kids home work for them ,help them to think ,is ok but just giving complete answers ,and making them lazy is moraly wrong.

I totally agree.

The time it takes to type out the question, they could have looked it up themselves.

Laziness is all we are teaching these days.
