I find that when you first meet someone and you can't think of anything to talk about, it's always good to ask them questions about themself. What music do they like? What hobbies? Everyone likes to talk about themselves and that way you might hit on something that you both have in common and the conversation will start to flow.

The classic conversation.
Ask them about them. Follow up with something that you can connect too and ask questions. Laugh and smile a lot. That encourages them to talk more.

If there are 100 people in the room, I can tell you most of their names within a hour. Its amazing. Good luck.

Ask the person questions about him/herself. Where did you go to school? What do you want to do with your life? Have you gone traveling? Where?

People in general love to talk about themselves.

Don't forget to share a few things about yourself, too--even if you are shy.

Start with like talks on say the person's job, what she/he major in studies, her/his hobbies, her/his family/pets.

Meanwhile also start looking for some other things like if you see that she's carrying a gym bag, ask going to gym? start finding some common subject and focus on it once you have found that.
