Almost products with the name "titanium" in it are not pure titanium but titanium mixed with other alloys. Even titanium used for industrial purposes is alloyed with aluminium or vanadium, usually 2-3%.

It scratches when the dirt is harder than the metal in your driver. Perhap the dirt has silcon-carbide, aluminum oxide, pumice, or a myriad of other constituants.

not by itself. it depends on the composition of the alloy. How much of other metals are mixed in with it.
