Great. Here are some tips.

Go to Programs in your START menu. Go to Accessories, then System Tools. From there, pick DISK CLEANUP. Let that run to find everything to delete. When it has found things, simply CHECK off everything and click OK.

Again in the System Tools section, pick DEFRAG. Run this Two or Three times to get things really smooth.

You probably have a bunch of programs that run at startup. Most of these you do not need, and can still start them whenever you want them. Go to the Start menu and pick RUN. Type MSCONFIG and go to the STARTUP section. UNCHECK programs that you see, but keep your Anti-virus checked. When you restart, many of these things won't start, and you will enjoy a faster startup. Yes, you can check the box next to the message that tells you that some of these are unchecked.

Make sure that your anti-virus program is updated and runs a scan about once a week. Check it's status regularly and look for the ICON near the CLOCK on your taskbar.

You should have an anti-spyware solution on your computer. I recommend that you go to http://www.download.com and get AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search & Destory. Install, run, update and scan your computer with both programs.

I hope that this helps.

Depends on a few things. Are you running a firewall? Just curious because your new at computers. If your not, then cleaning your computer will do little good. Itll go back to what it is now. Assuming you mean the current one your on now. If its not online and hasent been, then its a little more difficult. It all depends on the hardware for how fast it can go.

Now, assuming you have no firewall and your online. Go to www.download.com and search for these programs, download them, install them, then run them.

Zonealarm - either the free one or the security suite 2006 trail

Spybot Search and destroy

Ccleaner - Cleans all the internet stuff plus registry things. (Not a super good registry cleaner, but itll fix a few things)

Adaware

SUPERantispy

AVG anti virus

Now after you run all the scans, delete any spyware, adware, or viruses that popup.

After that, run a defrag.

Go to Startup>Accessories>System Tools> Disk Defragmenter

Run that. Itll take a little while if your harddrive is messed up.

You can run disk defragmentor. It is located in:

Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Defragmentor

Then click on Defragment

Defraging takes a while, so don't worry about it if it seems to stall. Also, defragmetning your hard drive doesn't NOT erase anything. It simply rearanges files on your hard drive so that the computer can access them faster. It does NOT move any files that you hae created. DO NOT do anything on your computer while it's defragmenting, or the process will take even longer.

If none of the above works, GET A MAC.

First start by going to the control panel, "Add and Remove Programs" and remove any programs that your not using or don't need. Download AVG Antivirus, Spy-bot Search & Destroy, Ad-Aware, and Windows Defender. They're all free. Update them and run them often. Next, go to "Internet Options" and delete the temporary files, cookies, and clear the history. Do a "defrag", go to "My Computer" right tic on "Local Disk C:\" and select "Properties", tic on the "Tools" tab, then tic the "Defragment" button. Do this after you download programs, or load them from Cds.

there are lots of options, depending on your configuration.
to speed up the boot process, configure your first boot device to be your hard drive, instead of cycling through the floppy and cd-drives.
if you have two physical hard drives, you can move your page file to the second hard drive.
if you are using vga graphics on your motherboard, consider tweaking the video memory to allocate more to the system.
this is just for starters.
hope this helps!
