My dad has a 1993 econoline e150 ford van, and when he starts it and puts it in drive, it dies. Sometimes it goes for months at a time without out doing it and then all of a sudden it does it again. What could be causing that?

It is fuel port injected, not throttle body. Sometimes it will start right back up and go and other times it will take several times to get it to go, but it will start everytime.

Could be a number of problems. 1. Could be the locking torque converter staying locked (because it starts right back up this is what I would look at first). 2. Could be a bad O2 sensor. 3. Could be a dirty fuel filter. 4. Could be a bad EGR valve. That's the best I can do without knowing more details about the problem. Good luck.

His throttle body is probably filthy, and needs it cleaned up. Could be in need of getting the IAC cleaned, or replaced as well. IAC is idle air control. Usually pretty close to the throttle. Hope this helps some. Good luck.
