They will both hit the ground at the same time. The one thrown off the building will be moving at a greater speed, but that difference will be because of the horizontal force. Both of the objects, neglecting air resistance (which hardly matters anyhow), will accelerate towards the ground at 9.8 m/s^2. The one thrown off the building will also be traveling at some constant velocity horizontally, but this will not affect the vertical motion.

One football is dropped from a building will be faster than thrown horizontally off the same building at the same time.

Here is the reasoning.
1.The former one will reach its terminal velocity first before the latter.

2. The second one is having the projectile motion and the Force is a vector.

3. The former one will have a vertical force vector towards the earth.

4. The summation of force in vector for the latter scenario is the summation of Fx and Fy. At the beginning Fy = 0 and as you throw it horizontally, maybe for t=1s, Fy is still 0.

Mr. Logic is correct if you want to take the resistance of the air into account, but if you want to pretend that it is in a vacuum (I am almost positive that this is what you would be expected to know) then wbluem88 is correct in that they will both hit at the same time.

This should have been already covered in your class. Horizontal velocity does NOT affect vertical velocity.

the one that you throw off the building because of the force.
