But why because of their religion? Give some examples...

Sounds like some people are listening to influences that no longer apply in today's world. I know that the pork I just ate was well fed and monitored closely before I ate it. Otherwise it wouldn't have made it to market. -Course luckily they closed down the pig farm near here, otherwise it could be a different story.

It is a religious rule. If you read your bible in Leviticus (the rules section) you will find that pigs (who provide pork) were viewed as unclean and would make people in biblical times ill and so the people were told not to eat pork. Eventually the meat of pigs was able to be cured and would not cause illness in those who ate it so that is why some people eat pork and many others do not.

Jewish people don't eat pork because they think it is a dirty animal. In the scriptures of the bible, God deemed pigs and swine to be unclean food, and not to be eaten ( Deuteronomy Chapter 14, Verse 8). But not only Pork is considered unclean...in fact, the entire of Deuteronomy Chapter 14 really lays out very specific laws on what is or is not "clean" (Kosher) food that people can eat. Shellfish and certain type of bird are also out.

In modern times, we know that pork can carry parasites such as trichinae and tapeworms. If you cook the pork thoroughly, these nasties are killed and are harmless -- if you don't, you can get very sick and die.
In ancient times, they didn't know anything about parasites, and didn't know what temperature they had to cook the meat at to make it safe (let alone what a temperature was) -- they only knew that quite often people who ate pork got sick and died. So they declared pigs and their meat "unclean" -- and banned people from eating them. Many of these bans came from religious groups trying to keep their followers alive. Now that we know what causes the sickness, it's easy to avoid -- just cook your pork thoroughly. No need for the superstitious religious mumbo-jumbo anymore, we have science now :)

Some religions believe that pigs are sacred. (Like Hindus don't eat beef because they believe cows are sacred.)

Jewish people don't eat pork because it's considered unclean; that's the way it's been since Biblical times. God told them pork was unclean and they shouldn't eat it, so many still don't to this day.

Certain people don't eat any kind of meat (which includes pork).
Certain people have religious reasons for not eating pork.
Certain people just don't care for the taste of pork.
Think that pretty much sums it up.

Because they say pigs are scavengers and eat anything even their own piglets. And when they eat they eat real fast so it doesn't digest quickly, so basically if you eat pig you eat whatever they have eaten.
