I'm 14 and I'm kinda shy. In groups for school I'm really quiet around people I don't really know too well. I really wanna become a bit more outgoing and get to know more people.
The thing is that I feel insecure sometimes and feel really dumb in front of the class when I don't know the answer in math or something. I try my best in school but I'm not perfect at all of the subjects at school.
I sometimes worry that the people who are in my other classes find me dumb or something.

How can I become more outgoing and try NOT to read their minds of what they think about me and just relax?

Serious answers only please.

I would suggest getting involved in a club at school that you have a passion for, something you are good at. But don't limit yourself to this, challenge yourself to do something that might make you feel uncomfortable, but can be rewarding, also. The best way to become more outgoing would be to go out for a play or some kind of performance. If your not ready to actually perform, be part of the support staff, like help with the scenery, or costumes, whatever you might enjoy doing. After hanging around actors or singers long enough, you may find yourself wanting to do it yourself. I was the shortest kid in my class until I was a senior in high school, but I was able to make true friends that shared in my interests, and helped me develop my personality. I can tell you that I am a father of 2 high school students, (my daughter is 16 and my son is 14) and I have been a professional entertainer for over 20 years. The best advice I can give you, and this goes for anything that you do in life is: dance like no one is watching or sing like no one is listening. Do it for yourself! Once you build your self-esteem, all of those things you want to get better at, just happen by themselves!

Relax, everyone else in your grade feels the same way. And no one is perfect at everything. The best thing you can do is to be a nice person. Try to find a sport or a club that you are interested in and join. That will give you the opportunity to get to know people in a smaller group first. But no matter what you do, I have always found that just being a kind, friendly person to work the best in any situation. Good luck!

Hi Stacie.........I am 46 years old.But once I was much like you.In hindsight I would recommend apart time job in sales. It really puts you out there and clears a lot of insecurities out of the way.
Philisophically......this has worked in my adult life.I tell myself that in 100 years in wont matter. So I go for it..How I feel at the time is only my perspective. It is just a narrow view of the world that no one really cares about anyway .So go for it!!

Just be yourself. Go up to some girls that are in your class and start talking to them like at lunch time. Or maybe join an activity at school and your make friends that way too. Good luck
