I would say a legal approach might be useful. There are Supreme Court cases on issues like whether lockers can be searched and who can get their urine tested for drugs.

The 4th amendment protects us against unlawful search and seizure at times. It involves balancing the rights of individuals and society, or something like that maybe.

You can probably find plenty on the law of workplace privacy online. Would we be better off as a society if employees had no right to privacy and everyones cubicles were searched freely and everyone was given random drug tests for better productivity?
