The doctor said that's what I am but tonight I was having some pretty uncomfortable contractions. I have been walking 1 mile a day. I am 36 weeks. Does anyone know how much longer I have or can share past experiences?

Well, it kinda depends on how many pregnancies you have had. Generally, first-time moms tend to dilate and efface early. However, 2nd-time and beyond moms usually dilate and efface soon before they go into labor. Although this is tends to happen, every mom is different. The truth is, you can't predict when you go into labor. It just happens when it happens. With my first, I was 3 cm dilated for about 8 days! You are still only 36 weeks along. At 37 weeks, I was dilated to a 1 and I gave birth at 41 1/2 weeks! Don't dwell on it too much. Your baby will be here very soon! Enjoy your last few weeks of freedom!

When I was 38 weeks I was finally checked and was 3cm 50%effaced 1station. I went into labor exactly 40 weeks and arrived at hospital 5/6cm 85%effaced. Within 1 1/2hrs was 91/2cm with just a lip on cervix. You could walk around for weeks like you are just take it easy..that baby will be here before you know it.

Congrats!

A mile! Gee that's a lot of walking to be pregnant. But if you're at 1cm, face it, you got a looooooooong way to go. But you never know. My sister was at 1 and they sent her home, but they gave her some medicine that was allegedly for the pain. It must of induced her because by the time we got home my mom and I were like in pain becuase she had us in a damn crunch from 1 until 7 that morning and then her mucus plug came out so we drove her back and they kept her. But during all that she was only on about 3 cm and they didn't give her epidural until 4 cm. But it just depends on the baby.. it's there show no matte what you do. You just better be ready for crunch time.

Honey, it could be tonight, it could be a month from now. You never know with babies, especially first ones! I was 2 cm. dilated for approx. a month, and nothing happened. I did experience more frequent BH contractions during this time, but never went into labor. I know how stressful this is, especially when you just want the baby OUT, but the baby will come when it's ready. Good luck to you and congratulations! I hope you don't have to wait much longer!

It could be weeks before you have your baby. The uncomfortable contractions you are feeling are probably braxton-hicks. Walking a mile a day is great! I did that with my son, had him on his due date and had a quick and easy labor. Keep up the good work.

You will know that you are in labor when you have had the following for at least one hour:
1. Contractions every 5 minutes.
2. That last at least 60 seconds.
3. That do not change when you change activities or take a bath.

If you are finding your braxton-hicks bothersome... drink a big glass of water and take a warm bath/shower. Real labor doesn't stop with these behaviors.

Good luck and be patient!!! The baby will come when it is suppose to, and babies are suppose to cook for 40 weeks.

BTW... being inpatient, allowing a doctor to induce you, going to the hospital too soon, etc. make a woman a prime candidate for c/section, which is major abdominal surgery, and not a lot of fun to recover from when trying to enjoy your new baby!

I was 1 cm dilated, 60% effaced, and -1 station the day after my due date. I had the DR strip my membranes on that Monday, lost my mucus plug on Tuesday, went into labor early Thursday morning, and had a baby by late Thursday night.

My biggest question is: is this your first pregnancy? If it is...it's most likely that you'll deliver this baby before your due date. If it's your second baby, however, it could be a while. With second babies, women generally will be a few cm for a few weeks before they go into labor.

My guess? Probably 2 weeks from now. Hang in there!

Honestly, there is no way to tell. My fourth child was born in May and I was SURE my baby would be early- so did my doctor. I was 50% and 2 cm at 7 months, and had Braxton-Hicks contractions all the time, but...I only progressed to 3 cm until labor was induced- on his due date, so he wasn't early after all.

My experience is that I was 3cm dialated for about 3 weeks. My friend who just had a baby was dialated to 2cm for a couple weeks. It really varies depending on the woman. Baby could come now, or even LATE. In fact, another friend was dialated to 2cm at about 38 weeks, and she didnt have her baby til she was a week late. So good luck, and baby will come when baby comes. The closer to full-term, the better. My daughter was only 2 weeks early, but had such bad jaundice that we had to have the bili lights macine at home, and take her in to get her heel poked every day. It also made her digestive system sluggish and could only have breast milk for 10 months. Good luck!
