Wolfenstein Enemy Territory. Insanely fun, free, multiplayer, shooter. The online multiplayer gameplay is better than the online multiplayer in any shooter game I've ever bought, and this is free.

one game I liked which is online playable where you don't have to download anything except for Java (download at Java.com the latest version) is called RuneScape. It's graphics aren't much, but it's sorta fun and you can play it for months if you're really bored and wanna save money for better things. Go to Runescape.com and start playing today if you want to.
Another game is a game called Rakion where you fight against other ppl gaining experience points to make your character stronger and money to buy stuff like armor and creatures. This one is not an adventure game like RuneScape, but it's sorta fun. Anyway, to download it, you gotta register and download it at softnyx.com. Hope you like it.
P.S. If you really want to play good game with good graphics, you could register at GameFly.com for renting any kinds of games for any kinds of system for $9.95 for the first month which you keep as long as you want with no late fees (which I'm planning to do in the future). Or, if you just want good games for your computer, go to gametap.com another amazing universe of games all the way from the very first classic ones in 1970s to the latest games with the beautiful graphics. Also for a nice price so you could save your money for more important things ;-). Enjoy!

There are quite a few free online games, though they are overwhelmingly MMORPGs. Maplestory is a popular one, as is Runescape and Silk Road. For non-RPGs, Gunbound is especially popular. Run a Google search on any of them to start playing.
