I am currently taking a double major in early childhood and social work and would like to open my own childcare center; but would like to hear from someone who was successful at doing this, and find out what steps I need to take in order to achieve this.

Depends on what state you live in because different laws apply in each. Just google your states family services and you should get contacts through that site. When in doubt...call a child care business all the way across your state, let them know that you are interested in starting your own business but will not be near where they are located....tha way they won't feel threatened, you get some good advice and may even get a mentor/friend outta the deal.

my girlfriend had a child care business. She ended up closing it. It all depends what state you are in. Every state has there own laws, and inspections. I know that she had a hard time getting money from the state. Some low-income familes had the state pay for there child care, and she ended up losing money because of the state. You will have to check with your state and city codes. good luck.
