First you must have a sincere heart. Romans 10:9-13 says it all.
You must believe that Jesus came to this earth, that He is the atonement for our sins, He died for our sins and that He rose from the dead on the third day. This must me in your mindset before you pray. Make your confession to God/Jesus/Holy Ghost. They are all the same. He will hear your faintest cry. Psalm 139 tells us that God is All-Knowing and All-Present. He formed us from our mother's womb and He knows before I even utter a word on my tongue, He knows about it. He wants us to confess it and say it so that we can minimize and keep us from making the same old mistakes. Ask Jesus to come into your life.
