I was lucky that I got everything I registered for. My friends on the other hand have the same complaints that you do. I dont know why people dont go off the registry, I always do.

First of all, most people don't purchase anything until the morning of the party, or the day before. Most people work full time, have families to take care of, or like my grandma - only get out one day a week.
Secondly, after spending a lot of time in a long line to purchase the item, people are then told to stand in another long line at the customer service desk so they can mark the items on your list. This is not usually done at the checkouts - in my area they don't do it anymore at all. So, most people look at that 2nd long line, and say well, I'm going home because I'm sick of being in this store now.
Thirdly, it's about money. Yes, you want those big ticket items, and all the expensive stuff on your list. But, everyone has to pay higher taxes, and higher gas costs, along with higher utility bills in this economy that we're living in...so people will go for a similar item that's cheaper, if they can. Or else they'll find something adorable on clearance, and just not tell you that they paid that much less.
I also yelled at my niece for peeking at her list prior to her party. They're gifts, no matter what people buy. Be gracious for the gifts you receive, and the hard-earned money spent to buy them. It's what's from the heart that counts, not how much they could afford.

It really is best to have a huge variety of items on your registry. Different Price AND Items. Sometimes, diapers are really necessary, but don't look that cute wrapped up, if you know what I mean. I try to mix it up...get a little something from the registry and also something personal...between me and the mother-to be! Also, dont worry about not getting everything on your registry...sometimes people dont even take the registry to the cashier...so it doesnt get checked off the list. Then you'll have multiple items...Return some and get what you really want! Also, sometimes, that store is not readily available to them like "last minute shopper answerer" said. Enjoy your friends and family this weekend and remember what this is about...YOU are gonna be a MOM!!! Best of luck to you! Hope you get what you need to take care of the baby!

I know how you feel! There weren't a lot of things that were purchased from my registry either and it kind of bummed me out. You end up with tons of things to return afterwards, and it really is a pain! I can understand it if you register at some very expensive place that no one can afford, but I had very modest items on my registry and everyone basically ignored it. I definitely feel your pain here! I tried to be grateful at my baby shower, and I did receive a lot of nice gifts that weren't on my registry that I LOVED. Hopefully it'll be the same for you. Just try to relax and remember that everything is returnable, even if it is a pain. Good luck and congratulations!

You may be surprised. Some people will go buy what what want, but many do buy based on the registry.
With my last one I noticed that although it was not checked off through the registry, I did receive many things I'd asked for. I think most people wil check the list, but not actually order it or mark it off through the registry so that it reflects the item as being fulfilled..

That can be kind of annoying, but remember a couple of things:
If you're a first-time mom, something might be WONDERFUL even if it wasn't on your registry and once you get it you may wonder what you'd ever do without it.
People give you gifts, even gifts you may not find particularly useful, out of the goodness of their hearts so don't be ungracious. If you get something you absolutely can't use, save it to share with a girlfriend when she's expecting her first or give it to a good charity so someone else can appreciate it. Babies are expensive, so you'll probably find uses for things you get that you didn't ask for long after the baby is born. You might surprise yourself.

well, I had the opposite problem, everyone got me multiples of just a couple of things on my registry. I didn't even bother with one the second time, I told my best friend who was organizing the sprinkle to just give pointers when people asked what I needed. She was planning it, and when they found no registry they of course asked her what I needed. It worked out nicely. She told everyone two things, something cheap like wash cloths and something mid ranged like umbrella stroller. People who wanted to get me more expensive things inquired, "well does she want a new crib for this one?" or "Is someone already getting her a double stroller?" So I ended up with multiples of the things you need multiples of like onsies and most of the more expensive things that I needed. Also, when you don't do a registry, people will get you a little thing like a picture frame along with gift cards to baby stores so you can pick the stuff yourself.

a LOT of people aer last minute shoppers - they wait til the day or 2 before teh shower and buy stuff then. Also some people that have kids think they know what you'd need better then them so they go and get yuo what you don't want. sometimes you make out in the dal - other times you end up in the returns/exchange line at the store.
I made out in the deal at mine.. a friend got me one of those video monitors - i love it... but never registered for it cause didn't think anyone would spend that much :)

happen to me to I don't know why people do that. However in my case some people just forgot to take it off the registry or they didn't have the brand that I wanted so they got another brand. HOwever, you can bring whatever back. All ya got to do is do a search on google for the name of whatever and it'll tell u where sells it and u can bring it to that store and get what u want I had to do it to alot of stuff and the people never know.

Maybe everything you registered for is a little on the expensive side, and not enough people were able to get together to pitch in on items together. But then some people just have an idea of what they want you to remember them for getting you, so they might disregard it altogether. If that's the case, ask them for the receipts "in case you get more than one of something."
