The recovery of Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond has been "absolutely remarkable", says the ambulance team which moved him to a Bristol hospital.
Mike Lindley of Yorkshire Air Ambulance estimated Mr Hammond could be nearly back to normal in two or three weeks.
His team had taken the presenter to hospital in Leeds after he crashed his jet-powered car on an airfield.
And he appeared to be in good spirits, smiling and laughing, as the same air ambulance transferred him on Thursday.
The TV star was later seen walking into an ambulance on arrival in Bristol, which is near his home.

BBC bosses are planning a special programme to show the 300-mile an hour crash that nearly killed unlikely heartthrob, Richard Hammond.
Hammond, 36, is still recovering from brain injury after the jet-powered Vampire dragster he was driving veered off a track whilst filming at Elvington airfield, near York, last month.
If the documentary goes ahead, it will feature Hammond talking through the crash and looking at what went wrong, but programme-makers will stop short of showing the aftermath of accident for fears it could be too distressing for viewers.
A TV source said: “The aim is not to be gruesome, but to show all the preparations.”
Last night, Hammond had not yet been asked about whether he would want to do the documentary, but close friends are confident he will be keen.
Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson began filming the new series again yesterday, but the schedule has been delayed until his co-host is well enough to take part.
