I asked this before but the answers were minimal.
I know the hippa law prevents the doctors from sharing my information. I want the employers to accept the doctors note as an excuse for absense---they no longer accept doctors excuses! That is the point.
I am not talking about simple colds. I am talking about illnesses that are contagious or constantly painful, or anything serious.
It is whoever's own fault they went to work with a broken rib.
I just want laws to protect employees, what is wrong with that? And all I get is other employees against laws for their sake???

stay home, your company may demand that you put them ahead of your health, but you shouldn't. Collect unemployment while looking for a better job.

We obviously can't trust companies to look after our health. The only answer seems to be government intervention. Vote Democrat!

I have never work for a place that said you had to come to work if you were sick, and most companies will accept a doctor note, it is mainly the doctor that is reluctant to produce the note.

Most companies are drifting toward PTO (personal time off) instead of vacation and sick days. This allows the employee to take time off for any reason they desire, including using PTO as sick days.

I have sent employees home who because they we're sick or are running a fever, for two reasons (with pay.)

1. If your ill you are of no use to me, you are unproductive and your work below your standard.

2. I do not want other employees getting what you have and taking time off as well.

Some companies are taking a hard stance with sick days only because some employees abuse them. I have read studies where it is estimated that employers lose over a billion dollars just from employees abusing sick days.

I don't think we need to create new laws forcing companies to offer sick days, I think that the better companies already offer paid time off for employees who are sick, just like medical insurance. A major concern with companies is employee retention, because the amount of time and money spent training new employees is an expense that is a costly and can be avoided.

Remember that the more regulation and laws we impose on companies the more attractive outsourcing to a low cost labor market looks.

I have yet to see laws that protect the people they were intended for. On the other hand I do not blame companies for not accepting an employees Doctor's excuse, many Doctors who are good terms with a patient will excuse them for little reason, It is up to each company to set their own policies. Should you go to work? It depends on where you work and how much you want to keep your job. I think that anywhere you are employed the first few years, if you miss over 4 or 5 days a year Doctors excuse or not they are going to dismiss you. I know this isn't much help, just the way things are.

Most places will charge you one day as a miss even if you have a broken leg. So each day after is free. So you have to play the game. If you are going to miss one day and get a doctor excuse make shure you get a second day as well. I mean if you are going to miss one day there would be no need to go to the doctor if you are going to get charged for it anyway.

Best thing to do is go to work and let them know that you are sick but can't miss a day of work. Let them know it is contagious. Let them send you home with a get out of jail free card. If they force you to go home they can't charge you for it. If they don't send you home the whole area you work in will be sick the next day.

I don't understand what you're asking here. Are you saying your employer does not give sick days?

Are you saying the government should force your employer to give you sick days?

Here's a thought: If you don't like the benefits your employer gives, go work somewhere else. That's called the free market.

This administration has no sympathy or empathy for American workers. If you are ill, go to work and pass your germs to your co-workers. When everybody is ill, they will understand the prudence of accepting physician's word for illnesses.

Go to work, pass the strep throat to your boss. Be sure to cough as close to him or her as possible. Maybe next time, your boss will want you to stay home.
